Training Fees Explained

We try and keep things simple to understand, although things can get a bit complicated because we have a wide variety of membership categories to be inclusive for everyone. So here's an explanation!

Training fees are simple, and have not changed for several years now. A place on a 2 day sailing or windsurfing course is £225 for non-members, and £125 for members, regardless of course type or age. The non-member course fee includes 'Temporary Membership' for the duration of your course - therefore, you do not need to be a member to be able to join us on a course.

I want to start learning to sail - we suggest you join the Level 1 Start Sailing course as a non-member for £225. This is usually the cheapest and simplest option, and allows you to try out the club, the training, and the equipment with the minimum possible cost. If you are a family of more than 4 people, all taking training courses, it may make sense to join straight away.

I enjoyed my Level 1:Start Sailing course and want to continue - this is usually the best time to join. We'll give you a retrospective members discount for your Level 1 course, a discount on your Level 2 course, and you'll be a member for a full 12 months to get on the water regularly once you've honed your skills to the Level 2 standard.

Membership Fees are explained in detail on our membership page. If you're going to use the club regularly, you'll need to join, but don't worry - membership is very reasonable and great value if you make use of it. Membership offers more than just a discount on fees, so have a look to see what's available. You can get access to club boats at great prices, attend clinics to help you as you're starting out, progress into racing and come to social events. Here are some examples of training costs based on the 2024 membership & course fees:

Example 1: A single adult signs up to a Level 1 sailing course for £225, enjoys it, and decides to carry on to Level 2 and regular club sailing. They receive a £100 retrospective discount off their membership fee, and pay £125 for their Level 2. Membership fee £249, plus 2 courses @£125, total £499 for 4 days of training and a 12 month membership. Note they only paid £225 for their first course until they've decided they like sailing, and to join the club. A renewing sailing member would just pay the £249 for the year if they don't need training.

Example 2: A family with 2 adults and 2 children want to learn to sail. Saving 4x £100 on their first course by joining (£400), it's only £18 more to join for the year. They join and camp over at the club for their course. Following their Level 1, Dad and Daughter would like to do their Level 2 and that's only £125 each as members; Mum and Son aren't as keen for sailing, but love the club environment and enjoy taking out the club paddleboards and kayaks at only £10 a time. The whole family can come to the club knowing they can each do something they enjoy, the kids running off with their new friends, and the parents knowing they're all being watched over by the club safety team. £418 membership to entertain the family across the year seems like a bargain!
